It has been a busy few weekends for the ladies of Andover Triathlon Club with no less than four being selected to represent the Great Britain Age-Group Team in various Championship races.
The European Standard and Sprint Distance Championships were held over the last weekend in May in The Parque de Nacoes in Lisbon.
Janet Taplin was first to race in the Female 60-64 age group Sprint Distance race (750m swim, 25km bike, 5k run) on Friday. In excellent race conditions Janet came home in 1hr 25mins to record a 7th place finish.
Sunday saw Judit Leszkovich (35-39) and Virginia Graham (55-59) racing in the Standard Distance (1500m swim, 50km bike, 10km run) Championship races. The weather was once again ideal for racing and Judit finished in 2hrs 24 mins in 18th place and Virginia in 2hrs 49 mins in 17th place.
The following weekend Louisa Vere made here Great Britain debut in the ITU World Duathlon Championships held in Aviles in Northern Spain. Duathlon is a run-bike-run format.
Louisa was competing in the 30-34 age group Standard Distance race (10k, 40k, 5k) and took to the big stage like a duck to water, finishing in 2hrs 28mins, a personal best at this distance. She was 7th out of a competitive field of 20 duathletes from all over the world.
Club Chairman Neville Breach said: “We are really proud of what these four ladies have achieved. We are a small club, so to have four of our members be selected to represent Great Britain is not only a testimony to their dedication but also to that of our great coaching team”.
