2016 has got off to a flying start at the Andover Triathlon Club with the announcement that four more members of the Club have been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Middle Distance Championships, Austria in September 2016. Louisa Vere, Judit Leskovich, Virginia Graham and Dan Mason all get to pull on the coveted GB age-group colours. Their performances in previous qualifying events during 2015 ensured that they were brought to the attention of the GB selectors; an achievement all the more outstanding as all three hold down busy day jobs and only get out to train in the early hours or late at night. The club are enormously proud of their efforts and are excited to have a great representation at not only the European Championships, but also the Worlds being held in Mexico where Janet Taplin will be competing as well.
There was plenty to cheer about for the whole club too at the recent AGM and Presentation evening held at the Andover Masonic Hall. An evening to celebrate the past year and to look forward to an exciting 2016 ahead, it was also a chance for friends to get together in less strenuous circumstances! It was also an opportunity to publically thank some key figures in the Club who have devoted so much time and energy to their responsibilities. Two notable mentions must go to Sam Pratt and Rupert Griffiths. Sam has recently stepped down from the role of coach at the Club after years of selfless support to all its members and she was very much the driving force behind the success the Club enjoys today. Also, the Club Chairman, Rupert Griffiths stepped down from his role after 4 years at the helm, which also included the responsibility of Race Director for the Andover Triathlon which is held every year at Farleigh School in July. The Club and all its members are enormously grateful for the services of both Sam and Rupert over the years and cannot thank them enough!
