The Club held its annual Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships on Saturday 7th September.
For the second year running we descended on the Newbury Triathlon which lends itself perfectly to this kind of event. It is local, very well organised and with its short pool swim, it is an event anyone can take part in.
Due to Great Britain commitments, several other national qualifying events and some late injuries, numbers were down a little on previous years.
The Newbury Triathlon consists of a 300-yard (not metres!) swim in the 75-yard lido, followed by a rolling 20km bike course and then a flat off road 5km run. Competitors were set off in the pool in pairs every thirty seconds with members of the Club starting at regular intervals throughout the morning.
As always racing was close and competitive and when the results were eventually published, James Barber was confirmed as the new male Club Champion finishing in a time of one 1 hour and 14 seconds. James was also first overall at the event.
Judit Leszkovich successfully defended her title as Club Female Champion in a time of 1.06hrs. Judit was also second female overall at the event.
Jeremy Burgess reclaimed the title of Club Male Veteran Champion, a title he won in 2013, in a time of 1.06hrs. Jeremy was third in his class.
Sarah Fox became the new Club Ladies Veteran Champion in a time of 1.13hrs. Sarah was also first female in her class.
The competitors were cheered on by the usual fantastic Club support. Well done everyone and congratulations to our new Club Champions!
